Black History Month Spotlight: ChangeInc
ChangeInc Chief Executive Officer Derrick C. Gibbs, Jr. spoke with MetroHartford Alliance Content Manager Nan Price about how and why his business is a part of Hartford.NAN PRICE: Tell us about ChangeInc and how you came up with the business concept.DERRICK GIBBS: I grew up going to a church in Hartford that owned a summer camp in Eastern, CT. The church gave me a scholarship to attend their camp (my family wouldn’t have been able to afford to send me, otherwise). That’s where I learned the skills to help other people, which is really the foundation to what would eventually emerge into ChangeInc.ChangeInc is a home healthcare agency that provides behavioral services for individuals and families throughout Connecticut. We ensure that every individual under our care has the same human rights as you and me.NAN: Tell us about your involvement in the Hartford community and the impact you’re making here.DERRICK: We started ChangeInc 10 years ago in Hartford and we recently purchased Maple Leaf Manor, a facility in the West End that’s been a staple of Hartford for the past 25 years. We often utilize businesses in the Hartford area to host our client and staff events and we employ many of our staff from the Greater Hartford region.NAN: Why Hartford?DERRICK: I was raised in Hartford and graduated from East Windsor High School. It’s important to play a role in such a vibrant community where my roots began.NAN: Where do you see the future of Hartford?DERRICK: I see Hartford thriving as we continue to build and develop our city into a cultural and business professional mainstay. “Hartford Has It” will only flourish as the city fosters growth in the form of business, education, culture, and tourism.Learn more about ChangeIncchangeinconline.org | Facebook | Instagram | LinkedIn | YouTube Photo: ChangeInc Chief Executive Officer Derrick C.
